The Deeper You Get December 5, 1988 Has he written a song for you? Well, this makes five from me. You say you get along, you two; well, we’ll see if he is all he’s cut out to be or if he changes in a while. People aren’t always what they seem when they smile. The deeper and deeper you get, the more you’ll find the truth to be just what I said; and then you'll see that you have been wasting your time. You’ll come to me, ‘cause I have been waiting so long for your love to be mine. Does he think of you all the time or only when you’re there? You are with me everywhere I go. And one more thing: I’d like to know if he has written a song for you. My inspiration is so strong that I feel the sixth one coming on and it won’t be long before the deeper and deeper you get, the more you’ll find the truth to be just what I said, and then you’ll see that you have been wasting your time with a man like this, the deeper, and deeper, and deeper, and deeper you get the more you’ll see in me. He looks good now, but given time he’ll sink to what he was without your love and then you'll see, you’ll see... The deeper and deeper you get, the more you’ll find the truth to be just what I said; and then you’ll see that you have been wasting your time. You’ll come to me ‘cause I have been waiting so long for your love to be mine. The deeper and deeper you get.

Toothpaste 02:24
Toothpaste February 14, 2014 1. Have you lost faith? Have you lost heart? Has what is left grown tired and hard? Has it been hard? Has it been long? Has it been going on and on? Would it kill you to not treat the toothpaste like something you were trying to strangle? 2. Has it gone too far? Has it gone too wrong? Has it just worn you down? Are you left with rage when all your love is gone? Are you left with nothing left at all? Would it kill you to not treat the toothpaste like something you were trying to strangle? Are you left with nothing left at all?

Palestrina 07:33
Palestrina June 20, 1998 1. Palestrina, what would you do if there were so many voices all louder than you? Palestrina would you find a way and the will to go on though no one’s listening? Palestrina, please give me some hints. Shed some light on my path so that it all makes sense. Palestrina, would even you fail to create balance and beauty of the things in my head? 2. Palestrina, did you know that you’d be considered a master after centuries? Or did you just live day to day, writing note after note, page after page? Did you feel the fire in your head, by candle at night when your wife was in bed? Did you wake up tired, but glad that in the silence of night you’d given birth to a mass? Are you listening? Can you hear me? Will my voice reach through the years? Am I touching your spirit, through your soul, through your heart, through your head, through your ears? 3. And here I stand today before a jury of masters staring down at me. What else can I say after Beethoven, Bach, and Debussy? Palestrina, I pale in your light. Though I’m burning today, tomorrow you’ll still shine. But even as I flicker and fade, I plea for permission to ply your trade. If I were a plumber it would be easy to make my case understood. I've got no illusions of my stature: I'm not a genius, but I'm good...

What's Real 03:09
What’s Real? February 17, 2017 We’ve all got this disease and sometimes it feels like it is the only thing growing inside me. Is any of this real? Is this just a dream– a series of scenes and cycles of feelings? How do we know what’s real?

Idiot 01:23
Idiot 2005/2011 People are likely to be idiots. Everyone I know but me is bound to be stupid. I can see, predictably, that you will disagree. And that would make you... an idiot.

Have I Gone Too Far? May 27, 1990 1. Have I gone too far? Will there be no turning back? Today I follow my own star, will I find that only I see it tomorrow? Have I gone too far? 2. Who have I become? What is it I’m looking for? When I look into my eyes all I see is blood and sleepless nights and manuscript. Have I gone too far? 3. Have I lost the crowd? This time have I pulled too hard? Has the fragile thread I led them by begun to fray or even broken in two? Have I gone too far?

Silent Star 05:29
Silent Star December 8, 2004 1. Strange angels in the sky interrupt this lonely night singing peace on earth. But what’s that worth when they sing it from the sky? 2. No angel will never know what it’s like living below. They sing of birth, but that just means more hurt as another woman cries. Born under a silent star. Live under a silent star. Die under a silent star, a million miles away. 3. 2,000 years passed since that night and the only light that fills the sky are the rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air under the gaze of satellite, above this maze with restless eye. Born under a silent star. Live under a silent star. Die under a silent star, a million miles away. A silent star, while all the angels sing: Gloria, Gloria, in excelsis Deo.

So Far from Home (Psalm 137/Mukachevo) July 28, 2015 1. We sat by the river and played our guitars, dreaming of better days. If memories are fires, then songs are the spark— but they’re both starting to fade. They are starting to fade. How can we sing the songs of the Lord here on foreign ground? How could we raise a song of joy when we’re so far from home? 2. We sat under willows and taught them our songs; the wind played the branches like harps. Tears in our eyes, laments on our tongues, and such sadness in our hearts. Only sadness in our hearts. How can we sing the songs of the Lord here on foreign ground? How could we raise a song of joy when we’re so far from home? 3. God damn the slave traders, pimps, and the wars that have taken our sons and our daughters. God bless the children huddled for warmth, ‘cause the night is getting colder. Oh, the night’s getting colder. How can we sing the songs of the Lord here on foreign ground? How could we raise a song of joy when we’re so far from home?

I’ll Be Around 1997 I'll be around when your friends are gone and you’re feeling down. I’ll be around when all your luck is through. I’ll be around and I swear my love will astound you. No better friend can be found, I’ll be around for you.

When I’m Dreaming February 10, 2011, 8:47am 1. Who knows of the ever after? Who wants to arrive there faster? I’m not sure about forever— I only know I want to be together. 2. Who knows what our dreams are made of— hopes or fears or fairy dustings? All I know is when I’m fading, there’s another world there waiting. And when I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming of you. 3. When this sleep is finally ended, I’ll wake up and I’ll remember something, someone, somehow waiting just beyond what dreams are made of. And when I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming of you.

about

The St. Sinner Orchestra is a grand fusion of classical and rock music, featuring a dozen string players, a percussionist, and Greg Scheer on vocals and guitar. Scheer, a classical composer by training and a rock musician at heart, combines the rhythms of pop and the intricacies of classical music, resulting in what Jeremy Begbie calls “music that that will disturb your imagination and delight your heart—a rare combination.” The St. Sinner Orchestra’s music is uniquely crafted with the orchestra’s voice taking center stage. These are not just pop songs with strings. These are compositions that weave together catchy melodies, driving harmonies, and extended string sections.
